On an early, hot Saturday morning on August 21, 2021, Atlas® participated in the Evansville Heart Walk at the Warrick Wellness Trail. The annual three-mile walk is in support of the American Heart Association’s national campaign to get America moving. The noncompetitive walk that celebrates those who have made lifestyle changes and encourages others to take the pledge to live a healthier lifestyle—all while raising dollars to fund lifesaving research and education, advocate for health, and save lives.
Leading up to the walk, the organization kicked things off with their
“The Beat Goes On Challenge” beginning on June 14, 2021. Led by coaches representing various departments, each team was tasked with counting their steps between June 14 and the day of the walk. Every Wednesday, Atlas also hosted a “Go Together” walk during the workday hosted by a member of senior management.
Nine teams participated in the challenge, with the IT department’s “In IT to Win IT” team winning with 78,569 total steps.
For
Jack Griffin, Atlas® World Group Chairman and CEO, the cause is an important one. Though limitations made this year’s walk more challenging than those of years past, he was heartened by the Atlas turnout.
“This was a tough year for group activities,” said Griffin, “with COVID-19 still being an issue, and a morning where temperatures were climbing near 100 degrees with equally tough humidity. But we had 87 members there representing Atlas, and we were about 40% of the walk’s total turnout. I was personally very proud of our group for showing up and raising $3,138 to support the good work being done through the American Heart Association.”
